AUSTIN, TX – August 3, 2013 – FUN FUN FUN FEST (FFF Fest) is proud to partner again with local nonprofit Project LOOP to present an expanded skate + ride experience at the festival, which includes a host of professional skateboarders and BMX riders bringing their best to the vert ramp, half-pipe and street course at the 2013 festival Nov 8-10.
FFF Fest producers and Project LOOP have worked hard to step up the alternative sports component for the 2013 FFF Fest skate + ride experience, an endeavor that’s been growing in scope over six years. Legendary BMX vert ramp pioneer Mat Hoffman, aka “The Condor,” has joined the fun to help bring vert to the fest, along with an all-star cast of athletes that will blow FFF fans away. The BMX lineup will also include vert legends Simon Tabron and Dennis McCoy, as well as FFF6 veteran Mike “Hucker” Clark.
In addition to the vert ramp team, Aaron Ross, Chase Hawk, Tom Dugan, Sean Sexton and many more will round out the BMX crew. There will also be a free-ride half pipe and street course that’s going to be a step above 2012, making it their most ambitious and impressive to date.
“The skate and ride experience keeps growing and growing and this year is by far the most heavy hitting lineup of athletes we have ever had,” said James Moody, co-owner of FFF Fest. “People are going to go nuts for these riders. We are so happy to be working with the Project LOOP team to make this the best year yet for us all.”
On the skateboarding side of the festival alternative sport experience, FFF Fest and Project LOOP are proud to have legendary skater and original Bones Brigade member Christian Hosoi, aka “Christ” or “Holmes,” join the athletes on the ramp. Additionally, vert specialists Elliot Sloan (won X Games 2013 gold in skateboard big air), Lester Kasai, Sergie Ventura and Pierre Luc Gagnon, aka “PLG,” will be riding vert demos. Cody Lockwood, Steve Reeves, and native Texan Raney Beres, who’s coming off a “best trick” win at the Van Doren Invitational, will also be riding along with many others.
“It’s crazy to think that just two years ago my little nonprofit Project LOOP was asked to help build a ramp for Fun Fun Fun Fest, and now I’m taking calls from Mat Hoffman and Christian Hosoi,” says Brent Humphreys, founder of Project LOOP.
Alternative sports spectators will also enjoy an interactive art experience in the skate + ride area curated by artist Tim Kerr, legendary skater/actor/model/artist Steve Olson, and eminent graphic designer and artistic director Chris Bilheimer.
Texas has always had a legendary skate scene and it wouldn’t be what it is without Zorlac skateboards. Not only did Zorlac have the sickest skateboard graphics ever courtesy of legendary artist Pushead, but they also had some of the top vert skaters to come out of skateboarding’s post skate park collapse/ramp riding era. John Gibson and other Zorlac members will be in attendance, so we may pay homage. Prepare to bow down and kiss the rings, people.
The complete FFF Fest music lineup includes M.I.A., Slayer, MGMT, Jurassic 5, Television, Snoop Dogg, Descendents, Ice-T, FLAG (Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowski, Dez Cadena, Bill Stevenson and Stephen Egerton), and many more. The full list of artists is available at funfunfunfest.com. Weekend 3-day passes are currently on sale. Single day passes will be on sale in September.
