Lake Forest, Calif. — etnies has been integrating sustainable green practices into its business for several years. In an effort to reinforce its commitment to the environment, the brand is proud to unveil the etnies SEED Project, a unique collection of apparel and footwear made of sustainable and recyclable materials that integrate our responsibility to give back to the planet, for spring 2007. With the purchase of these products, 1% of the proceeds will be donated to benefit environmental organizations that etnies believes will plant the seeds for the future of action sports, humanity and our planet. The innovative approach of incorporating environmental themes that directly reflect the charitable organizations who will benefit from the collection’s proceeds is what makes this new collection stand apart from others.
The 2007 etnies SEED Project collection is made up of entirely organic fabrics and materials including hemp, bamboo, cotton and vegetable dyes. Organic fabrics are free of pesticides and chemicals, which pollute the air, water and food supply, benefiting the people wearing them and the environment.
The collection will seasonally focus on a theme, representing the following elements of our environment:

On-going green initiatives that etnies has implemented and integrated into its entire organization include, but are not limited to:Solar Energy — In an effort to leverage the earth’s renewable energy sources the brand’s Research and Design building has 616 solar panels on the roof that provide 275,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity and eliminate 97 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
Production — During spring 2005, etnies began the transition to using water-based cements instead of toxic petroleum-based cements in shoe production — currently 80% of the brand’s shoes are produced with water-based cements.
Packaging/Hang Tags — All etnies packaging and hang tags are 100% recyclable, and the brand is continually upgrading the overall amount of recycled materials used in its packaging.
Employee Awareness — A number of etnies’ employees serve on a committee leading the way for new ideas and ways to allow the brand to think “green in all its practices. While etnies has applied many green practices over the years, the brand plans to continue to work towards sustainability. The green movement isn’t a fad or a passing trend, it is a way of life and etnies is putting additional green practices in to action over the next year.
