It was right around this time last year when I was told that the issue of RideBMX magazine we had just finished (Jan/Feb 2017) was going to be the last issue of Ride, ever. Being a photographer first and foremost, I was definitely unsure of how my role at Ride would play out in the future with the new focus on video content. I remember the first few times I went out to shoot photos after that and it was weird to shoot someone's video part banger and not really know what I was going to do with the photo. Understandably, people put a much higher value on potentially getting a photo printed in the magazine, and once it was gone, I had a lot less people hitting me up to shoot photos--and I was guilty of not reaching out nearly as much I used to as well. It’s kinda depressing when I think about it now. As far as volume goes, I definitely shot fewer photos in 2017 than I have in well... since I've worked at Ride. But when I went back through my archive from this year I was pleasantly surprised to see how many photos I actually did shoot still. Here are my top ten favorite, not necessarily “best” photos of 2017. For the record, there are a few other photos I shot this year that would probably be on this list as well, but I can’t reveal them yet. So stay tuned for more photos some time soon…
