Steven Hamilton was the chosen name bearer of Animal’s initial pedal offering well over a decade ago, and anyone familiar with his riding at the time would have no question why – Steven’s creativity took street riding to another level, and his pedals were a big part of that. So it makes total sense that the 2nd generation of Animal pedals belongs to a team member following in that legacy of creativity, and there’s no roster member more fitting of that spot than Mark “Ratkid” Gralla. For 2017, Ratkid will be hitting up cellar doors all over the greater NYC area and beyond on his new signature Rat Trap plastic pedals.
Animal’s new Rat Trap pedals modernize the brand’s stalwart platform pedal, both thinning out & widening the body to reduce weight and increase surface area, which allows for more grip and for a stiffer pedal stroke. Everyone knows that the one downside of plastic pedals is the fact that they tend to lose traction faster than their metal counterparts, but the added contact with your foot helps alleviate that. The final piece of the puzzle is a heat-treaded 4130 chromoly spindle, rolling on reliable unsealed bearings.
The Mark Gralla Rat Trap pedals from Animal are available now from Animal themselves and at all Animal retailers for only $18.99. The Rat Traps tip the scales at 15.3oz, and are available in black, blue, red and army green. If you somehow aren’t familiar with Rat Kid, watch the promo vid above and familiarize yourself with the past few years of Animal and Skapegoat edits immediately, and follow him on Instagram at @markgralla and follow Animal @animalbikes now.
