Greg Walsh just sent us over a few details about two of the projects Coalition’s got going on.First is their new “Friends and Family” video series, which definitely sounds pretty cool… Basically, instead of working on a full-blown team video, Coalition’s going to give each team guy his own short DVD section, which will have a full riding section, an interview, and then a riding section from one of their “up-and-coming” friends. Each DVD will have custom illustrations of the team guys (that should be interesting…) and will come packed with CD samplers from various underground labels, plus some special offer stuff from Coalition, Hell On Earth, Bicycle Union, and United Bikes (Ian Morris’ new deal). You’ll be able to download the team rider sections from the DVD off the coalition site www.coalitionbmx.com for a few bucks, but you’ll have to get the DVD if you want to see the rest of the stuff. First up will be Ohio native Steve Debusk, followed by Justin Inman, Tony Hamlin, and Ryan Metro in early ’07. Keep an eye on the Coalition site for more info.

Coalition’s also been working on some new grips dubbed the “City Grips. The idea behind this is pretty cool, so we’ll let Greg fill you in on how the whole thing came about:

This is what the packaging is going to look like for the Rochester grips. Start bugging your local shop for them now.

Coalition BMX is proud to introduce the first in our series of “City Grips”. The first city featured will be Rochester, NY- our hometown. In addition to Coalition, Rochester, NY is home to Kink Bike Company and Blackout Distribution; Kink was one of, if not the first, to offer US-made parts and accessories focused on durability during a changing riding climate in the mid-90’s. Rochester was also home to Hal Brindley and Steve Buddendeck, and their 2B clothing brand, which was a huge influence on riding (and us…) in the 90’s as well. In addition to the clothing, 2B put on some of the best and definitely most fun underground contests in history, motivating countless others to follow in their footsteps.

The “City Grip” series will be an ongoing project, and will cover many cities across the world that have had a direct impact on the current state of BMX bike riding. Every city chosen will have its own custom grip design, package logo, and insert telling a bit about its history relating to BMX.

We will be accepting logo/design suggestions from riders in each city, whether it’s a unique piece of architecture that we could incorporate on the grip or package, or some interesting facts that we can include on the insert.

The Rochester, NY grip will be available Summer ’06.
The city roster and release order so far is:
1. Rochester, NY
2. Austin, TX
3. New York, NY
4. Los Angeles, CA
5. Chicago, IL
6. York, PA
7. Hastings, England
