What were your goals when designing this product?
To develop something lightweight and very functional, yet looked different from traditional stems on the existing market by using many lines in the overall design.

Why is your stem better than others, or what makes them different from others on the market?
The Iron Maiden uses a frontload with split handlebar clamps with a reversed slot and pinch. The fact that we have a fully exposed cut through to the steer tube makes the stem unique. Others have tried similar designs; however, this one truly works as intended. In addition we use 7075-T6 material when most others use 6061 making the stem stiffer. Colored bolts are stock spec on the stem. That's an additional $10 value.

What were your goals when designing this product?
Basically our goal on this one was just to make a top load version of the original Bold stem. We had a couple guys on the team as well as a bunch of requests from customers who really liked the Bold stem, but wanted to see a top load version.

Why is your stem better than others, or what makes them different from others on the market?

Clamp Bolts: Chromoly with optional titanium upgrade.
Pinch Bolts: Chromoly with optional titanium upgrade.
Colors: Black, White, Mint Green, Purple, Green, Red, Blue, Aqua, Polished, Orange, Gold
Weight: 9.6oz / 272g

What were your goals when designing this product?
GT Mallet head stems looked badass back in the day. We wanted to do our own interpretation of that stem motif. This is what we came up with…

Why is your stem better than others, or what makes them different from others on the market?
What sets our stems apart is the intricate CNC machining for a detailed finish and reduced weight. Throw in some high luster anodizing and the acoustic is what comes out.

I fought riding a top load stem for a long time, (I think it had to do from riding a DK top load stem for so long in the early/mid 90's.) but once I got on a Push stem, I could bunnyhop to the moon.

What were your goals when designing this product?
Mulville called us up about three years ago and said, "I really want a top load stem." Three days later we gave him a prototype. The rest is history.

Why is your stem better than others, or what makes them different from others on the market?

Stem: Cartel Stem
MSRP: $54.99

Stack Height: 33.7mm
Rise (Upright/Invert): 10.2mm
Clamp Bolts: 8 x 1.25mm
Colors: Aqua Anodized, Black Anodized, Polished, Red Anodized, Titanium Anodized, White Painted

Other Info & Details:
The Cartel stem's self-tightening tapered wedge clamping system allows greater contact area with the steer tube for a secure grip. The recessed area on top is designed to accept preload bolts (fits flush with Verde Cartel 2 forks' preload bolt).

What were your goals when designing this product?
The goal was to design a stem that looked as clean as possible and also maintained the strength needed for current day street riding.

Why is your stem better than others, or what makes them different from others on the market?
With the absence of traditional rear bolts, we could add material to weaker areas and still produce a lightweight stem…this also makes for a knee-friendly stem. The self-tightening wedge system has also been improved in comparison to other brands by increasing the surface area around the steer tube.

Top Load
Reach:
48mm, 51mm and 53mm
Stack Height: 33mm
Rise (Upright): 23mm
Clamp Bolts: 4×1.25mm (Hollow)
Pinch Bolts: 2×1.25mm (Hollow)
Colors: Black, Polish, Orange
Weight: 10oz based on a 51mm stem

Other Info & Details:
6061 aluminum top load stem with internal and minimal external machining for increased weight saving. 23mm rise to help the rider create a taller front end. Other key features are hollow bolts, rounded knee friendly backside, recessed for fork pre-load bolt to achieve flush look, Mutiny logo machined in the handle bar clamp and laser etched graphics.

What were your goals when designing this product?
The front load lifted is now in its 3rd version. The original goal was to create a front load stem with a positive rise. The latest version has an angled clamping slot to help create a better grip on the steer tube and is recessed for the fork pre-load bolt.

Our top load stem is a re-worked version of the front load stem, but with a much higher rise. I don't ever see us making 9″ or 10″ tall handlebars, but I know riders want that taller bar height, so this is a perfect solution.

Why is your stem better than others, or what makes them different from others on the market?
The front load is now in its 3rd revision. It's by far the best stem we have ever put out; we are always looking to raise the bar with everything we do. If you like what we are doing and these specs look like they would fit your needs then try one. If not, no hard feelings. Go check out some of the other brands in this Buyer’s Guide.

cult

Company: Cult
Stem: Mind Control
MSRP: $54.99

Reach: 52mm
Stack Height: 29.2mm
Rise (Upright/Invert): 7mm
Clamp Bolts: 8 x 1.25mm (Hollow)
Pinch Bolts: 8 x 1.25mm (Hollow)
Colors: Black, Orange, Rasta, Raw
Weight: 9oz

Other Info & Details:
Clean, Straightforward, front load.

What were your goals when designing this product?
In an age when most stems look like bad school machine shop projects it was time to re-think the Mind Control Stem. We liked the look of the classic stem, but they are usually over built and too heavy. This leads most companies to start attacking the outside of the stem, but this only weakens the structure. We created the desired shape and machined only the insides to leave a shockproof structure that will not only control your mind, but also your machine.

Other Info & Details:
CNC 6061 aluminum with machining for weight, and the classic Povah dual plate design.

What were your goals when designing this product?
To create a practical stem that could save weight but not sacrifice any function. I can’t speak too much to the original Povah design, but when we created the TL version it was a no brainer to continue using the original face plate design.

Why is your stem better than others, or what makes them different from others on the market?
Our stem is a stem for those that have tried the newest technology and want to get back to a solid stem that isn’t too heavy and looks good. With our front and top load options you can have the setup you’re accustomed to and never have to worry about it moving again.

Why is your stem better than others, or what makes them different from others on the market?
The design of the stem combined with quality craftsmanship and bold graphic treatment makes this one of the sexier stems out there.

bizhouse1

bizhous2

Company: Bizhouse
Stem: The Original “Dialyser Clamp”
MSRP: $69.00

Reach: 26mm, and 50mm
Stack Height: 1.50″
Rise (Upright/Invert): Zero Rise
Clamp Bolts: Four only to cut weight.
Pinch Bolts: I got rid of the two extra bolts to take away weight
Colors: Black, Silver
Weight: 5.9oz

Other Info & Details:
You can pick up both sizes at Dan's Competition, and the 26mm at Flatland Fuel.

What were your goals when designing this product?
First thought was to cut weight when I weighted the bolts…that is what made the stem heavy. Then the knee magnet in the back—I was real sick and tired of hitting my knee on the back that stuck out a 1.75″….had to be cut. "Cut Me Mick" Rocky. And my biggest problem was the bars that slip when you crash, from quill stem, to the clamp on stem, they all slipped on me, so I thought if both clamp at the same time it would be like a drum brake on a car, and it worked! 10 years, no problems! The stem holds tight as skeleton fit jeans!

Why is your stem better than others, or what makes them different from others on the market?
Well, the stem was invented by a rider, and sold by riders! So ride one today! Thank you!
