Know Your Roll – Demolition Rotator V2 Freecoaster Wheel

When freecoasters began gaining popularity amongst the street riding world around 10ish years ago, a common occurrence by a segment of the BMX population was to deride pros making the switch to a coaster from a cassette hub. You see, there were people then & still people now that believe the lack of backpedaling when riding backwards is seen as “cheating”, much like the argument for steel vs. plastic pegs. Ryan “Biz” Jordan, already a legendary rider at that point & even more so now, was one of the guys I recall unjustly catching shit when he first made the move. At this point, most of us with a brain have given up on that argument, and especially now that coasters have become more reliable and more affordable, riders everywhere continue to make the switch. Demolition embraced the movement years ago & continue to cater to those making the move with their Rotator V2 Pro freecoaster wheel, cosigned by longtime team member Biz himself.

The Rotator V2 Pro Freecoaster wheel from Demolition is the latest in a long line of strong, affordable wheels from Demolition. Consisting of the Rotator V2 hub, which boasts improved hardware over its predecessor and three slack adjustment rings, the hub comes boxed with your choice of a 9t RHD or LHD driver and a non-drive side hub guard. You certainly can’t get anywhere without a rim, so Demolition have wrapped the Rotator in one of their Zero rims, which is designed with dual vertical internal ribs for strength and internal drilling to save weight while avoiding ugly holes all over the place. You’re probably assuming this wheel costs a fortune, but it retails for only $200 – making it a fairly affordable option for both the experienced coaster rider and for those looking to make the switch. Plus, getting the wheel as a whole package will save you some green; add the cost of all of the above parts (plus Demolition spokes & rim strip) and you’re looking at nearly $270 retail, plus the cost/time involved in building the thing. Why buy piece by piece when you can get the complete wheel way cheaper? Plus, you can put that extra $70 towards a pair of Hammerhead tires…

The Demolition Rotator V2 Freecoaster complete wheel is available now from Demolition themselves and at all Demolition retailers for only $199.99. Hope you like black, as that's your only color option, but you can choose between both RHD and LHD.
